Leaky bathroom faucet

Well our leaky faucet in the main floor bathroom turned out to be a major pain in the ass. I went to Home Depot to try and get the parts, but they were too old. I bought a new shower assembly but it would require me shutting off the water to the house and the fittings are all reverse from what is on the existing fixture. Go figure. So we called a plumber who turns out to be our next door neighbour. We start looking for a shutoff value for the tub but cannot find it. A few educated guesses later we find that the ceiling in the basement den has a panel in it that likely houses the pipes that we need to close off. So out comes the drywall saw and we now have a gapping hole in the basement den ceiling. The plumber inserts two shutoff values and tada...still leaking like a sieve. So the water must be coming from the opposite direction. During the fridge reno I saw that the pipes were coming up to the bathroom so out comes the drywall saw again. So we now know what needs to be done but it is getting late and the plumber has run out of shutoff valves so we'll continue the sage in the morn...
